This Spring, there are many ways to engage civically in Maryland. From registering to vote to getting involved with organizations leading on issues you care about. Our spring civic engagement guide offers equity-minded leaders like you the resources to elevate your leadership and take action.
Is your voter registration out-of-date? Maybe you’ve moved since the last election. In Maryland, the last day to make changes online or change your political party was April 23, 2024. However, if you’ve missed this deadline, don’t worry—you can still register the same day you vote at your local polling place.

If you see things in your community that are in sync with your personal values, you can donate your time to amplify equity-centered community work. Even more, if you’re interested in policy or advocacy work, getting involved with a local organization is a great way to understand policy issues in context.
Below are just some community-based organizations headed by LEE members who are leading on the ground on important issues of equity in our communities. If you’re interested in plugging into any of these groups, let’s chat so I facilitate an introduction.
Arts Education in Maryland Schools
Arts Education in Maryland Schools (AEMS) is a 501(c)(3) Maryland Non-Profit Organization committed to ensuring that all students in the state of Maryland have access to high-quality arts education by mobilizing power to communities through advocacy, professional and leadership programs, and resource building.
Strong Schools Maryland works with supporters across the state to monitor the implementation of the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future, advocates for legislative and regulatory policy changes to further educational equity, and builds the technical capacity of everyday Marylanders to hold state and local officials accountable
Maryland Alliance of Public Charter Schools
The Maryland Alliance of Public Charter Schools is a non-partisan group that serves as a voice for charter school communities so they can advocate for equitable and transparent conditions for public charter schools, offer support to new and existing public charter schools; and drive the discussion around innovative educational practices that lead to positive outcomes for students.
Maryland Child Alliance: Baltimore Baby Bonus Campaign
A group of equity-focused educators in Baltimore, led by LEE members Julia Ellis, Nate Golden, and Emily Yu recently launched a charter amendment campaign to allow for a direct, one-time, universal cash payments to new parents in Baltimore City. The Baltimore Baby Bonus campaign is a project of the Maryland Child Alliance whose mission is to reduce and eventually eliminate child poverty across the state.
You can learn more about each candidate running in Maryland races using LEE Maryland’s Candidate Directory to quickly access candidates running across the state. Each listing includes candidate websites and social media handles, so you can learn more about each leader’s platform.
We encourage you to assess each candidate critically. Do their values align with your worldview? Are they planning to lead with equity in mind? If so, we encourage you to get involved with those campaigns, contributing your time, talent or treasure. Volunteer to cover a candidate poll on election day, donate your professional expertise in kind, or contribute financially to the candidate’s campaign.
If you’d like to talk more about mobilizing around organizations, issues and candidates you believe in, let’s schedule some time to talk. I’m here to support your leadership!
